Jon,

Great point on me not blogging since December so let me re-start my blogging.

The Lawn & Garden (L&G) team just came back from overseas working on 2009 product (Patio sets, firepits, fountains, pottery, outdoor décor, folding furniture, & grills). There will be a lot of new product for 2009 so stay tuned.

Enough about 2009 I wanted to share with you some of the merchandise that is available in stores now. Check out our Lawn & Garden 2008 Outdoor Catalog that features Better Homes and Garden merchandise. It will be available online in the near future.

The 2008 L&G catalog highlights several categories that can enhance your time in your backyard focusing on patio sets and grills and all the accessories to compliment them. Several of our Key Patio sets are by Better Homes and Garden. This year if you purchase a Better Homes & Garden patio set we offer a 1 year free subscription to their magazine. A few new items this year are our outdoor rugs 5x8 that match back to the patio see page 14 or an Umbrella light see page 22. For those grilling on the go check out our table top grills on page 35. Flip through the pages and dare to imagine what your backyard could be at such affordable prices!!! A wider selection of product is available at Wal-Mart.com and with our site to store option many sets can be shipped to your Wal-Mart.

My personal favorite Patio Set is the Bali Island Collection with the Anisette Outdoor Rug. The surprise item of the season for me is the 36" tall Lion Statue - see page 25.

I am ready for some warm weather so I can start enjoying some more time outside with the family.

***UPDATE - YOU CAN FIND THE 2008 CATALOG HERE

Believe it or not our team is already working on our 2009 collection of Outdoor Decor items and our 2008 collection hasn't even hit the stores yet.   From patio sets to pots to grills we have to work 1 1/2 years in advance of the season in order to get the merchandise to the stores.  Our merchandising team works from various data points to come to conclusions on what to buy.  So I thought it would be great if we asked you this question.  What do you want in your backyard?

  • A dining set? (table & chairs)
    • high dining – tall table almost the height of a bar
    • regular dining – normal height
  • A deep seating set?
    • love seat & 2 chairs with ottoman
    • sofa & 2 chairs
    • 4 chairs and a low table
  • A Bistro Set? (Small Table with 2 chairs)
    • high dining height
    • Regular dining height

These are some of the questions we ask ourselves everyday. We realize there is a customer that will want each of these different offerings and more but we have to pull out what the majority of our customer’s desires are and try to develop a set to those desires.

I look forward to you telling us what you would like to see in your backyard.
