Back to School shopping is in full swing and the 1 thing we continue to hear from our customers is the need for great value laptops. We continue to listen and are able to meet this need for great value again!  This Sunday, Walmart will begin selling the Toshiba L355 17” screen size laptop for $348!!!  This machine has 3GB of RAM Memory, 250GB Hard Drive, Intel Celeron Processor and Windows Vista Basic.  This is perfect for work and play  To check more information out about this sku head to www.walmart.com and see this laptop as well as our broad assortment of computers from HP, Acer, Toshiba and Dell!

Also a press release came out yesterday about a project we have been working on for quite some time.  There is a real need for a laptop for children that will be the key introductory machine for that young child.  A product that has proper security to make mom feel safe letting her son or daughter get on the computer.  A product that has some great content for kids as well as great educational content.  We are finally able to deliver this product.  Partnering with Dell and Nickelodeon, we will be launching a netbook this fall  that will be a must have for each childs Holiday wishlist.  More to come on this, but here is a Reuters article about the launch as well as geeksugar.

Hope you enjoy the Toshiba deal as well as the other product in store.  Enjoy these last few days of summer.

The one thing both articles lack is what's on my mind, and that is HOW does this laptop aid or help the parent(s), to protect kids online, and promote online safety.

As a mother I limit online time, and limit websites to my kids. It's a very simple rule, if you aren't sure ask, if you know it's not a "mom approved" site and do it anyway, you lose all online access.

I worked for a tween/teen virtual world, and many parents turn their children loose online, without any kind of supervision.

Viacom's, Leigh Anne Brodsky said:

"This really is not a toy. This is the real deal,"...

Yet I do not see anyone promoting software to guide children online, guiding parents to the fact of reality that being online is and can be a very serious issue!

Parents, please, don't assume that if your child is in his/her room, that he/she is safe and "just browsing the net". This is not the case, and the internet is not a babysitting device.

Back to school!!  Hated it when I was a kid, still hate it.  But I love Walmart, it is my favorite store to shop, it has everything a parent needs to get for the child/teenager going back to school!!

It is about time people are starting to realize that there is a very large market for child computers and related products.

Rose: it is not the computer's job to "aid or help the parent(s), to protect kids online, and promote online safety"...that is your job, as a parent. The computer is a machine; it follows instructions, that is all. What, exactly, is the point of your post?

Compters are the wave of the future for school kids. the faster companies pick up on that the better off they will be.
