One of the coolest parts of my job is working with suppliers to bring you all great deals.  Today, I am announcing a deal that is the best we have delivered so far this year.  The time is perfect as the economy is what it is, and people are getting prepared for going back to school.

Sunday at 8 am, we will begin selling a Toshiba laptop that has 2GB of RAM, 120GB Hard Drive, Reads and Writes cd’s and dvd’s, has a 15.4” screen, has wireless capability and the Windows Vista Premium Operating System.  All of this for $398.  That's right; $398!!  This is a tremendous value for anyone looking for a laptop.  Supplies are limited (we did buy a lot, but think at this price it will be quite popular).  This item will also be on the front cover of our circular this Sunday.

As I've said before, you can expect we will keep delivering on great prices in electronics.  You bet we want to be competitive -- and especially this year show students (and moms) we know they care about both the price and the product!

Thanks for the comments.  First, it is the A205-S500 with an Intel Celeron processor.  Second, we can no longer ship Windows XP product on configurations like this after June of this year.  We ran a Dell 2GB with the XP operating system around Fathers Day and this was really the last time we have shipped XP Product.  Becuase Microsoft has made that stance, we could not add anything but a Vista operating system).  Sorry.

Since Toshiba doesn't list a laptop labeled "A205-S500" on their Products page, would you please post a link where we can see the exact specifications for this model?

Thanks

Does this apply to Canadian stores as well? I live in Winnipeg, Manitoba and called our stores and they had no idea.

@lynda I have been using vista for a while now. to my experience its a solid os, I also have a machine running xp and I haven't had to boot it for a while now. If the machine has enough juice, (atleast 2GB of RAM and a decent graphics card) vista is anyday better then xp.

I assume this offer is available only in the U.S..

Will we see similar offer in Canada?

Thanks

"Becuase Microsoft has made that stance, we could not add anything but a Vista operating system"

You could add Ubuntu. ;)

Or, maybe just threaten to use Ubuntu until they cave and agree to let you use XP.

Lynda, download yourself some free Linux distro like Ubuntu and you wont need Vista. No need for antivirus, malware, trojans protection, no need for updating your Norton and Adaware or Spysweeper and all those type of programs.

My brother installed a Linux called PCLinuxOS on our parents computer so he woudlnt have to worry about their computer since they live out of town and my folks email, surf the web, talk to their grandkids on Skype and on Yahoo IM, watch DVDs and listen to music.

It convinced us to try it and we now run both Windows and Linux on teh same machine but spend time on the Windows side only for games and 1-2 apps that I need for work.

I am looking at the Toshiba for my eldest son and my brother will install Linux next to the Windows as well that way my son can do everything in Linux and still play Chessmaster on teh Windows side.

We have weened ourselves out of the money pit that is Windows and my wife inherited a 10 year old IBM T21 laptop with 256mb ram that my brother revived with Xubuntu which is lighter on graphics for older machines.

My brother convinced us through safety, cost savings and the fact that webcentric nature of Gmail, Flickr, Facebook, Youtube, IMs and so on means that the browser is your main tool (luv the Firfox extensions) and we've gotten quite used to it.

I will never pay for Anti-Virus programs again, I will never pay for the Office suite, I will never pay for another upgrade in my OS. Instead I will spend that money on something like this laptop for my children.

Its really a Win-Win situation.

Don't like Vista??? Use Ubuntu Linux!!!!!!!

I agree with you Lynda... but don't worry, the Toshiba should run Ubuntu just fine. :)

I've been running Ubuntu on my laptop for months, and haven't had the need to boot back into Windows for any reason.

Did they make this just for you?

I can't find it on their web site

Their support site goes from the A205-S4797

to A205-S5800

And if you go to a memory site. it says the a205 series is a dual core notebook too

I can't find any tech specs on the machine

Hate to burst your bubles, but i think this price must be only in some areas.  In El Reno, Oklahoma the sale price is $494 and the local store refuses to honor your $398 price.

Hey, I purchased the toshiba from wal-mart  for $398.  What a great deal!  I'm very happy with my purchase.  The keyboard is a little noisy when typing, but no notebook is perfect.  It has Vista, and has no problems running the applications I need.  I'm a very happy camper : )

Where is it? The cheapest Toshiba laptop listed on the Walmart web site is $548

The only one with the A205-S7456 model number is listed as $698.00

Got this too. It's quite good for $398!

It's the A200-S5000 model:

I was on vacation when this online deal came out, with no way to get to a walmart. Is this still available in the TN area? If not will it come about again or will another model be forthcoming?

Thanks - Richard
