Well, it is that time of year. Speculation grows as to the plans of retailers and the jolly fat man from the North Pole. Yes, while everyone is getting ready for the holiday, it appears that a few mischievous elves are also at work with plans to disappoint folks this year. As most of you already know, Santa is a Sam's Club Member. How else did you think he gets all of the Skittles and toilet paper the good elves need to run the workshop? Santa pays well, but in a down economy, he also has to watch his expenses. Anyway,  he called me to ask about some websites that mention deals available on the day after Thanksgiving, commonly known as Black Friday. Some of these sites think they got a scoop on what we have been working on at Sam's Club for our Members. I told him that the information on those sites was not entirely accurate. I heard him writing down something and asked what he was doing. He said that he was putting some of these sites on his "naughty list" and that they were somewhere between corrupt politicians and Scrooge. He said something about them getting coal in their stockings. Had to take the opportunity to see about that new BMW Motorcycle I had been hoping for. While he said I was on the good list, I was not quite up to that standard. Looks like I have some work to do. Wonder if he had been talking to my old fraternity brothers, my wife or my boss.

In all seriousness, as consumers, we should really look at these Black Friday websites with a bit of scrutiny. I can assure you, not everything you see there is accurate. Unlike some other companies, we do not "leak" out this information. No one asked us if the information was valid before posting it. I can tell you this, we will provide some information early and even have plans to let out a few surprises on this very website where we will do out best to ensure it is accurate. Our real Black Friday advertisements look great. The folks in marketing worked really hard with us buyers to help everyone have visions of sugar plums dancing in our heads.

So, coal for the few baddies and good stuff for the majority of you goodies. If everything we read on the internet was true, we would all have some major issues. Fortunately, good judgment prevails. Do not know about you, but I am excited about holiday this year.

What do you think of folks posting false or falsified information only to cause havoc? Are you with the guy in the red suit and wanting to give them coal?

That's fair enough Joe the Buyer. Nobody likes bad information. Wal*Mart  should be careful with the accuracy of information their Public Relation Dept. "leaks" to CNBC. They will say things like Wal*Mart has lowered prices on over 5,000 items. That could be the normal clearance of seasonal items while prices of 10,000 basic SKUs like milk, eggs, bread and detergent are going up. I know as a regular shopper. Tell the whole story when talking prices.

You mean Sam's won't be selling that one item with tons of extra stuff for less than that one item sells for normally?

And here I thought it was an awesome deal... ;)

Richard, I am saying that the information on the internet is not entirely accurate. Wait for our advert to actually come out, or keep watching here.

What's wrong with leaking an ad, if they are good prices.  With the competion the way it is this year to get the customer in the door so to speak it can't hurt your sales to let the customer know what they can expect.  I myself love the fact that some of the ads are on the net, I will still buy my local paper to get the print ad but at this point I know where I want to be next Friday and right now Walmart is not part of it.

Well Santa is a goofball then. Of all people, HE should know that Christmas doesn't start until the 25th of December and lasts for the 12 days afterwards.... So it seems kinda silly that Santa's first and foremost concern with these websites was that they were destroying the spirit of Christmas by adding to the extreme absurdity that it begins on Nov.1, Black Friday, or whenever.

I wish I could go back to the old traditions...ex. buying the tree the week of Christmas, and decorating it on Christmas Eve.

all the trees have already been cut. You have to buy now, or they might run out. Unless of course you will cut your own...

Christmas truly has been runover by the retailers. Please, put our traditions ahead of your money...PLEASE.

Lisa, thanks for the comment. I sure hope that Sam's Club is a part of your plans for next Friday (and beyond). We would welcome the opportunity to earn your business and Membership.

I think one of the issues is that the advertisement had an error in it and was posted after it was known there was an error in it.
