I’m exuberant, ecstatic, giddy....my nephew, Holten, received a Wii for Christmas (I promptly received “Coolest Aunt Ever” honors, he also thinks I'm an expert gamer just because I buy the stuff...tee hee) and we have been playing until our eyes are blurry.  But that will be nothing compared to the carnage that will ensue when Nintendo’s Super Smash Bros. Brawl hits shelves.  To quote www.gamestats.com:

“Super Smash Bros. Brawl is a brawling, battling, action-packed video game that features a varied roster of characters for four-player simultaneous melees!”

I mean come-on, any game that features melees, I’m in!!!  I can’t wait to have my Pikachu take out my nephew’s Kirby...he is going down, I say down.  Break out the running shoes, comfy clothes, and water because it is game on.

Brawl is the reason to buy a Wii.  Will we be seeing Brawl launch events at Wal*Mart like we've seen with Halo 3 and such?

We would have loved to do something corporately to that extent, but the release date has moved repeatedly; thus, making it impossible for us to pull together such an event.  As you will note, I still did not announced the release date as Nintendo has not given the approval to do so.

Your post both confuses and scares me.  It leads me to believe the release date provided by Nintendo on the official Smash Bros. Website (http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/index.html) of Feb 10th may not be correct... do you know something we don't? :(

Okay, so now I must ask... WalMart.com lists Smash Bros. at 20 bucks.  What's with that?  I'd love to pay that much less but is that really the game or the guide for the game?

Oh yes, the mother of all multi-player games! I've had my eye on this gem since it was anounced, having been a fan since its N64 inception. You can find more information on the game (regarding its content and release date shuffle) at http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/ . The game was released in Japan yesterday, greeted by enthusiastic fans (and long lines), though I doubt it will get as much publicity here as, say, Halo 3.

Also, yeah there was a little glitch with the pre-order of the game on www.walmart.com a while back, but it has since been fix and all those effected given $10 gift cards as a gift for their patience.

Now, to wait for March 9th...

Well Richard as you are well aware by now that the date you saw on some other site was incorrect and SSBB moved to 3-9-08; however, I was unable to share such with you as it was confidential at the time of your question.  As for your dismay with Sam's doing a midnight event and Wal-Mart not doing one....that is not exactly accurate, we have thousands of Supercenters already open at midnight so the game will be ready to go into shopping carts at 12:01am just like at Sam's!

Tiff...

Any chance Wal-Mart might get any more games from NOVALOGIC-SIERRA (the makers of Delta Force series)? It's THE most realistic series EVER! I know - I worked for the CIA and JSOC for a few years and we used to use the first Delta Force-BHD game as a Training Simulator.  I'd LOVE to walk into a Wal-Mart and see more of their products.  However, I'm not a big gamer and don't know that industry very well.  I'm just a routine casual customer. Kudos on stocking both Guitar Hero AND Rock Band, as my teenage daughters LOVE IT! Great blog - keep up the good work!

I have to say that while I enjoy Wal-Mart's enthusiasm for gaming and the manner in which they embrace the gaming culture, I would like to see a few changes. The prices of video games have climbed to the point where it is somewhat ridiculous to be spending 60$+ on a brand new game for almost every system. Perhaps Wal-Mart could use some of its leverage to bargain for just a little lower? If it could push the prices down to a flat 50$, it would make it much easier for my friends and I to buy games. Part of the reason we've been spendthrift in recent years is because we can't afford to buy more than one copy of each game, usually split between the four of us. Each one would buy a different game and we'd share them around. I'd love to be able to wait in line to buy games as they come out, but with limited resources, and climbing prices, it's just not going to happen.

On another note, I love your blog. Keep it coming.
