I spent last week at the Consumer Electronics Show.  My time was dominated by various meetings with our Suppliers, but I did find some time to see the show.  Here is my best of the best at CES.  Of course, it had to be a Top 10 list.

10) HP Media Server.  This wasn't the most visually exciting thing at CES, but I still like it for one reason.  It is the future of desktops.  Home servers that deliver digital content to any "screen" in the home are cool.

9)  Panasonic 150" Plasma TV.  Ok, ok, it only made my list because it is big.  Not just big, gargantuan.  I know it has absolutely no application for the common household, but did I mention how big it was?

8)  Motorola Rokr E8 Mobile Device.  This device is like all the others in what is included (phone, mp3, camera, etc), but here is the key difference.  The keypad changes to match your device.  It has a haptic touchpad with illuminated buttons that change.  It shows the phone buttons when its a phone; audio controls when it is an MP3 player; and camera buttons when a digital camera.  A little hard to describe, but it is super cool.

7)  It is a tie.  Pioneer Project Kuro and Sharp Aquos LCD TV.  Kudos to the Engadget team for their picture of the .9" thick Pioneer plasma tv -- barely the width of your cell phone.  All I can say is wow. And the Sharp LCD was almost as thin -- at 1.5" for an LCD TV, they were not to be outdone.

6)  LG Voyager Mobile Device.  This device was the first mobile phone that made me believe that people could watch (or even enjoy) mobile TV.  I watched ESPN for about five minutes and was hooked.  Verizon can't keep them in stock, so I think the customer likes all the gadgets included (phone, mp3, mobile tv, camera, gps).

5)  Texas Instruments 3D DLP TV.  So the folks at TI wouldn't let us take any pictures of their 3D TV's.  You still had to wear the silly glasses, but the 3D experience was better than anything at Disney World.  I checked out Star Wars -- Episode 2 and Xbox Madden 08 on the TV -- both were awesome.  Now we need someone to get rid of those stupid glasses.

4)  Samsung HD/DVD and Blu-Ray Combo Player.  Who said there had to be a High Definition format war?  I love the fact that someone makes a combo player for either format.  It is a great idea, but there are still some bugs to work out.

3)  Dell/Alienware 36" Curved PC Gaming Monitor.  I am not a gamer, but this could make me one.  Not much else to say about this 36" DLP PC monitor, except, look at those curves!

2)  Microsoft Surface Computer.  It is hard to describe, so here is some video for you that helps me explain it.  Basically, think of a computer that does not have a keyboard or mouse anymore and you can do just about anything.  The killer app could be for restaurants and other businesses.  Microsoft probably hasn't conceived, yet, on what you could do with this at home.

1)  Sony and Samsung OLED TV's.  How can you not love the future of TV's?  The screen is the width of a couple of credits cards stuck together.  The contrast ratio is 1 million to one (a high end LCD today ranges from 8,000 to 15,000 to one).  And the screens could bend or curve if necessary.  Picture a home theater room in the future with a 100" screen that curves around the seating area and plays 3D movies.  You can almost see virtual reality becoming a "reality".  Scary for some, cool for others.
