Ahhh, the Holiday season is around the proverbial corner as lines at each register dance in our heads.  If you are one of those last minute shoppers who prides yourself on waiting so you can power shop your way through all the other scrambling patrons on Christmas Eve, may I suggest a nice set of Wii controllers or possibly a lovely XBOX 360 or PS3 to place under your tree.  What a beautiful sight to see the smile on the face of such a lucky recipient.  If you are looking for the best games to go with those consoles, feast your eyes upon my personal favorite’s list:

XBOX 360:

Halo 3 (I hear my pod mate has lost many hours of sleep due to this gem)

Mass Effect (This one is for the futuristic galaxy lover in all of us)

Scene It (Stomp your friends at one of the best movie memory recall games ever)

Guitar Hero 3 (Rock on, this game can get two guitarists dueling in a living room like you wouldn’t believe)

Rock Band (I can’t hold back my excitement on this one, I’ve dedicated an entire blog to it…rock on)

PS3:

Ratchet and Clank Future Tools of Destruction (Much love for the Lombax…umm, the strange rodent looking character)

Uncharted Drakes’ Fortune (The water graphics are amazing, makes you want to go for a swim and the storyline is engaging)

Rock Band (Can I say once again, throw those horns!)

Wii:

Guitar Hero 3 (Lots- o- fun, just trust me)

Super Mario Galaxy (Taking your typical Mario game play and turning it completely upside down)

Mario Strikers Charged (Soccer fun with a twist)

"[...]may I suggest a nice set of Wii controllers[...]"

Note to those giving gifts - only give Wii controllers if there's a Wii to go with it! :)

Anywhoo, for some more game recommendations, check out Bioshock and The Orange Box on the XBox 360.  Great shooters.  On the Wii side of things, Wii Play is a great choice if you're looking to pick up a second controller - $10 more than a controller by itself and it comes with a disc of 9 mini-games... it includes cow racing... That's right, COW RACING!

Also, Super Paper Mario is loads of fun (actually better than Super Mario Galaxy, IMHO).  Guitar Hero 3 for Wii is a good game, but I'd wait to pick it up until Activision fixes the bugs with the game.  Unfortunately, Activision is still selling the buggy versions of the game - without even sticking a label on the boxes. :(

If you want to go a bit cheaper, check out the Nintendo DS lite.  I swear I've sunk more money into this system than any other I've owned.  There are so many great games out there for the DS and you can get started with the system and a game for just under $160.  New Super Mario Bros., Puzzle Quest, Tetris DS and Phantom Hourglass are some of my top picks.

Also, Elite Beat Agents is about as much fun as you can legally have with a DS.  I know my local Wal*Mart currently has it in a bundle for $20 with a case and some extra stylii.  Oddly enough, they have the game by itself for $30.

If you bought or received a PS3 for the holidays... ummm... bring it back and get something better. ;)
